*shug* I have plenty of interesting conversations with folks at PAX. Maybe there's a "pot calling the kettle black" situation here. <Insert one of Kewop's faces here> Oh SNAP!

I have literally no idea who the pot is in this situation that you are spinning. Me, and if so why? You can have nice conversations but sadly people at PAX are still gross on the whole.

Conversely, PAX is ok I guess once but I really don't recommend it. Gamers have no social skills at all and do things that are socially unacceptable and when they are grouped together massively they reinforce each others horribleness and they all think it's ok to be awkward in public and not know how to treat and act to other people. We used to go to PAX but then realized we were only going so that our group of friends had an excuse to hang out in Seattle since PAX sorta sucks I must know what these things are. I need examples. I'm serious. I want to laugh and you may have the golden ticket.

pretty much what you would expect of people who never leave their hours, act like idiots, not understand personal space, not be able to communicate with others or express their views in a understandable way, be extremely smelly, not understand how to dress or style, pretty much be a arcadian.

I was expecting like a story or something. This seems like you're talking out of your ass and just being a hater... pretty much being an arcadian. I think I get what you're saying though. Do nerds have wild orgies at Pax?

I'm trying to figure out if that's a joke reply to my last post or not. Not doing free work for a comicbook or anyone. Those dudes don't even get paid shit for the most part anyway.
What I dislike most about these "contest" are they're bullshit. You're basically getting a bunch of free ideas from the public without paying a single cent. It's like when companies have the "design our logo contest!" and what do you win? The joy of saying, "yea I made that!". Pfff, fuck that. Give me money!
Some dude asked me the other day if I wanted to do some work for some kiosk in the mall. I said how much. He said he didn't have any money but a lot of people would see. I just said I don't care if a million people see it or no one sees it. I do care about being paid for shit I went to college for and spent many hours of my life to be good at though. Didn't reply... good, eat shit and die.
Also why are they asking for artwork at 72dpi? I hope they're not printing comics at 72dpi that's terrible.

I bet no one would ask a bunch of scientists to do free research and sign their work away to some big multi-million dollar company... because that would be insane. But when it's an artist people just go, "it ain't nothing but some doodles... what's the big deal?". You know what fucks everything up? The people who fall for this stuff which devalues art more and more and more. This topic irks the shit out of me because it doesn't happen to any other profession.

I don't get it. This isn't the same at all. These people are doing things on their own and giving it away which is basically building a portfolio. That is different than being asked to do something for free, give it to some big time company, and get nothing in return other than a "hey, look you did it!". There's no point. They're going to sell that damn comic and you'll get nothing. A big contrast is what Valve did with the TF contest. Dudes won and got a piece of the sales and ended up getting like 80K+. Do it that way and stop scheming for free ideas and art.

I mean you totally can't put that in your portfolio. But you'd have to have the chops to win in the first place. However, you're an already established well renown artist so obviously you wouldn't stoop to such things, all your doodles gotta make dat cheddah.

I don't think that page gets published, it's just a try out page. It's like going to someplace and them asking you to do an art test using their characters.

However, you're an already established well renown artist so obviously you wouldn't stoop to such things, all your doodles gotta make dat cheddah. Being published and winning a contest is nice, but this contest so far has no merit. It doesn't matter that it's DC either. The biggest 2D/3D art contest which was basically the "Olympics" for artists was made by some random dude who was a shitty artist. I'm talking about the Dominance War contest which is now dead for which is funny the same reason this contest is a shit idea for artists. They wanted to own the rights to the art submitted and sell posters and everyone told them to eat a dick and just like that Dominance War died. There are certain art contests that can make a career and others that are just there. The ones that make a career are ones a good majority of the professionals in the industry enter. This contest may be like that, but from how it's formatted I doubt it because no good artist is giving away work. It's honestly a slap in the face. It's like asking any profession to do work for free and telling them, "I'll put in a good word for ya ". No bueno. So winning would be nice, but honestly my opinion that they are mining for free ideas and art to physically sell won't change. They got the funds to compensate but aren't which is lame. If this was some special comic edition that was going to be free in a PDF for everyone at the end then and the winners got some cool hard copy signed or whatever then I'd be like "oh that's kind of cool" but you know it's not going down like that.

But they are probably a lot more talented then you are so whatevs your friends do contest and give away their good work for free and they're good artists? Or do they do contests? This is two completely different things. No good artist is giving shit out for free for other people to sell. I'm not against contests, I'm against contests that take your work, it belongs to them, and then they sell it and you get nothing. Also I like that randomly childish jab at the end. U mad?
