Performance is probably very poor on machines with 4gb of RAM and a slow hard drive. Regardless, I'm all for 64 bit being forced on everyone. I'm tired of living in a 32bit hell. So guys, I beat Dark Souls, it's pretty good, you should try it. Unless I've been wrong about ram for a long time that's not how it works. Ram has impact on actual performance but drastic, not so-so. If your game runs with 4gigs... it runs. You either have enough or you don't. So if you start running out of ram it doesn't go from 60fps to like 30fps, it goes down to like 2fps. So it's either running or just not. If people have it basically running with 4gigs then I don't get the reason to lock them out. I'm sure there's some logical reason as to I guess force people to upgrade to more ram, but I don't really get that. maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.

I think dewar more meant it's no longer necessary to cater to people with 32bit systems and 2gigs of ram, and from now on games should assume you have a 64bit system and at least 4 gigs of ram.
man that would be awesome.
BF4 runs in 64bit mode by default (there is a 32bit mode there as well that it can use if you have to) and it runs amazingly well.

Dragon's Dogma : Arisen something or other is free on PSN Plus now. Started it up last night and it had a pretty cool intro with some fairly impressive monster fighting right from the get go. A quick scan of reviews indicate that it's got some good things going for it, and at the price of free worth a look. I will not finish it, for sure, but ya'll might check it out if you're a member.

Much rather do dev on consoles or cell phones.

So guys, I beat Dark Souls, it's pretty good, you should try it. Goons are saying it never actually uses more than 2.5GB normally, but there is a memory leak that can make it use more than that. Instead of fixing the memory leak, they just set a hard requirement.

I'm sure there's some logical reason as to I guess force people to upgrade to more ram, but I don't really get that. maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. If all the software you're running on a machine uses up your available RAM, the OS starts swapping some of that data that hasn't been used in a while to your hard drive (it's called a page file.) Thus, you can have multiple pieces of software that all require 2gb of RAM running on one machine, because the ones you aren't actively using have that info swapped out to your drive. That process is much much slower than reading and writting from RAM however. A solid SSD or a Readyboost USB drive in your machine can speed that up some. To ilustrate this in my college IT support group, we installed Windows on a machine with the minimum amount of RAM (64mb) and then pulled out all but 8mb once we had the machine running. The machine still "worked" but it ran like crap and it actually burned out the hard drive after about 6 hours from all the memory swapping. So, I was guessing that they were running on the edge of the maximum amount of RAM and were scared that swapping with the Hard Drive would cause crazy long load times or other performance problems. Regardless, it is wierd that they're flat out restricting it rather than just letting it run crappy, but it's been fairly clear that Activision doesn't give a shit about it's PC audience.

Wound up going to the Video Games Live concert last night (apparently I bought a ticket from a guy at work about 5 months ago and promptly forgot until the ticket was on my desk on Tuesday). It was surprisingly good. The skyrim, halo, and warcraft compilations with the choir added were particularly well done. If it's in your area, I'd say it's worth checking out. VGL site

Batman is still pretty good overall even if there are some shitty bits here and there. Although the next Asscreed comes out on PC in a few weeks and that will be a big time sink for me as well.

I assume, since I haven't seen any body mention it and it's nearly the end of November, we're not doing Secret Santa this year?

Yes , I too can see how forum "traditions" could be assigned sexual orientation.
